Why We Evolved NextGen
Our work began in a farm-based therapeutic environment and it continues to be a space where young people thrive. Through animal interaction, nature, and relational support, we have seen incredible growth in regulation, confidence, and emotional safety.
However, as our work evolved, we began to notice something important.
A significant number of young people found it easier to connect, communicate, and engage through gaming, technology, and shared digital interests. For many, traditional counselling environments felt intimidating, overwhelming, or simply not how they related to the world. When conversations happened naturally around gaming, tech, and problem-solving, barriers lowered and connection increased.
We listened.
What became clear was a gap within the allied health space a lack of low-pressure, interest-led environments that still hold therapeutic intent, professional oversight, and meaningful outcomes. Many young people were disengaging not because they didn’t want support, but because the format didn’t feel safe, relevant, or accessible to them.
Over the past 12 months, we have intentionally explored what this could look like.
We focused on how to:
-
Build social engagement without pressure
-
Support emotional regulation and mental health without it feeling like a formal counselling session
-
Create connection through shared interests, rather than forced conversation
-
Maintain therapeutic integrity while offering a relaxed, socially driven environment
